Are you finding it difficult to leave work-related stress behind at the end of the day? It’s not uncommon to take out our frustrations on our loved ones, but there are ways to prevent this from happening. Here are two strategies to help ensure your work worries stay at the office:
1. Establish a calming end-of-day routine that signals to your brain it’s time to head home. This could involve relaxing activities such as taking a scenic route home, listening to music on your commute, or hitting the gym. Be sure to allocate enough time for this routine so you can switch gears before arriving home.
2. Create a “third space” - a place other than work or home where you can unwind and recharge. Having a designated spot to decompress, you can avoid feeling like you’re constantly shuttling between work and home. This space could be anything from a quiet café to a book club to a poker night. Choose a place that allows you to explore your interests, relax, and ideally find fulfillment.
